A Very Star Wars Post....

"And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to follow Me [as My disciple], he must deny himself [set aside selfish interests], and take up his cross daily [expressing a willingness to endure whatever may come] and follow Me [believing in Me, conforming to My example in living and, if need be, suffering or perhaps dying because of faith in Me]." Luke 9:23 (AMP) “Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose.” – Yoda Like most things, the words above are much easier said/read than done. There are times when it's easy to say "okay Jesus, here you go." Like when it's something in your life that you really don't have that strong of an attachment too. Or when it's a behavior that isn't second nature to you, it's pretty easy to say "Sure, you can have this." However, here's the catch, Jesus didn't say he wanted only the parts of our hearts we were willing to give him, he wants ALL of our heart.   B...

An Unfolding Story

So recently I've had a new bout of anxiety. It just kinda came out of nowhere and hit me like a wave. But it got me thinking...One of the things that I've always done is compared myself to others.(I know that's not something we're supposed to do and I'm working on fixing that.) I see other Christians, older Christians, other people who seem to have it all worked out while I'm here sometimes struggling to keep my head above water. But here's the thing, my life journey isn't the same as anyone else's. My life story is in the process of being written. Other people who seem to have it all figured out, the ones who've been through this type of thing before are at a different place in their stories than I am. I'm sure once upon a time, when they were my age and going through the very things that I am now, they had many of the same feelings I do. But that's the beauty of it. A story that's unfolding. I love to read series books, especially...

A Heavenly Quest

I've always loved stories where the characters have to set off on an epic journey to complete an important quest. Stories like Frodo and the Fellowship setting off to destroy the one ring in Lord of the Rings , Peter, Susan, and Lucy setting off to Aslan's camp to figure out how to save their brother Edmund (and ultimately Narnia) in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe , Luke Skywalker setting off to find Master Yoda and start Jedi training in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back , Harry Potter, Thorin Oakenshield, Percy Jackson....the stories go on and on. But one very important story to remember is OURS! If you're a child of God you have been given a very important quest. The day you became a Christian the quest was handed down to you by King Jesus himself. "Jesus, undeterred, went right ahead and gave his charge: “God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, ma...

The Mind Blowing Properties of Jesus

If you're like me and you've grown up in/around church your whole life, prayer, Jesus, the Bible are all things that are probably commonplace to you. You go to church every Sunday because that's what you're supposed to do. Your relationship with Jesus has lost some of the luster and wonder it used to have when it was brand new. I think that's one of the dangerous traps that Christians (myself included) fall into, we forget who Jesus is. Sure we hear about it all the time, but we've begun to tune it out.  Let's brush the dust off, rewind a moment, and remind ourselves who Jesus is and what he did and is doing for us. "Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giv...

Encourage One Another and Build Each Other Up!

Discouragement, it's something that we all know about. We hear about it, we've experienced it, but do we really understand how powerful it can be? So often I feel that we focus so much on the big things like depression or anger that we really overlook discouragement. But if you stop and think about it discouragement is really the basis of most of the other things we feel. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines Discourage: to deprive of courage or confidence   to dissuade or attempt to dissuade from doing something Discouragement is one of the biggest tools that the enemy can use against us. It's like a strategic missile targeted to our defenses. If he can knock out our courage and our confidence in Jesus, it leaves us wide open to the enemy attack. Think about it when you become discouraged you're more likely to feel/be susceptible to other things like doubt, depression, anger, self-pity etc. It's kind of like someone who has a compromised immune system, t...
