Sometimes its the Simplest Things

Fear, we all hear about it every day, it's everywhere. Fear has a way of taking something that's a tool used for good purposes and can turn it into something that can be used for evil ends...if we let it. For example, God has given me a very active imagination. While, this comes in handy when I'm writing...it can be a bad thing when I let my fear get a hold of it. When this happens, I usually shrink away from my creativity, put it in a box and lock it away in order to avoid fear using it against me. But by doing this I'm not using the gift that God gave me to use for him. Nor am I trusting him the way that I should. Instead of relying on him and trusting that he's going to take care of me LIKE HE'S PROMISED, I listen to the fear and lies and end up locking away the very thing that makes me special/who I am.

Fear is NOT rational, not logical and often times my biggest fears aren't even founded on real things. Many times the things I fear end up being fears built on top of fear.

Now I know what you're thinking...cause I'm thinking it too...not being afraid? WAAAY easier said than done....trust me I know....

When I was little my mom had a puppet that she'd use to teach four-year-olds in Sunday School. When I was in High School I used this same puppet to teach kids at church as well. He was covered in dark green felt, had a cone  shaped head, a big red nose, googly eyes, and a tuft of bright orange hair on top of his head. His name was TJ Egbart. It was a funny name and usually would cause the kids to laugh when they heard it. But TJ's name had a deeper meaning.
Through
Jesus
Everything's
Gonna
Be
Alright

That's a powerful statement...very powerful. But a lot of the time we tend to lose sight of how powerful a simple statement like that can be. If you're like me and you've grown up in church and have been surrounded by statements like this since you were born, these phrases are just a part of life. They're something that is/has been taught in every Sunday School class you've ever been in. We forget how powerful these simplest of statements can be.

Statements like Jesus loves me. That children's song is perhaps one of the most powerful and easiest to understand reminders out there:
Jesus loves me this I know
For the Bible  tells me so
Little ones to Him belong
They are weak, but He is strong

Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
The Bible tells me so.
The simple message here, Jesus LOVES me...he LOVES ME!!!! And when I am weak he is strong.

Final thoughts: When the fear seems to be closing in and the enemy seems to be gaining ground, remember these very simple truths:

Jesus loves me.
I belong to Him.
Even though I am weak, He is strong.
Through Jesus, everything is gonna be alright.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16 (NIV)

My grace is enough; it’s all you need.
My strength comes into its own in your weakness.
2 Corinthians 12:9 (The Message)

Don’t be afraid, I’ve redeemed you.
I’ve called your name. You’re mine.
Isaiah 43:1 (The Message)

Seasons

I know this may come as a shock to some, but I'm not exactly the most patient person in the world.  While I'm pretty easy going about most things, one of my biggest pet peeves is traffic. It's the bane of my existence. I would rather take a lesser-known longer route, but stay moving than to have to endure the stop and go of a popular "shortcut".   Recently, I found myself in a BIG traffic jam. Two hours of inching along, the red glow of taillights illuminating the night sky. There were moments when I'd surge forward and move a few feet, but as quickly as the surge came, it went and my agonizing crawl resumed.     Life is like that sometimes. We seem to get "stuck" in a certain place. Whether it be a place of waiting, a place of suffering, or a place of busyness; whatever it may be, it feels that no matter what we do, we can't move forward and we can't go back.     We look around at our friends in other lanes and they seem to be zoomi...

A Season of Pruning

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.   He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes [ a ]  so that it will be even more fruitful." John 15:1-2 (NIV) In any flourishing garden, you know there's a skilled gardener working to keep the plants and trees looking nice and healthy. Every day he must work to ensure things like weeds, pests, fungi, etc. that could hurt or hinder the plants are removed.  Sometimes though, the plant itself becomes a hindrance to its own growth and it must be pruned.  Merriam-Webster's Dictionary defines Prune as,  to cut off or cut back parts of for better shape or more fruitful growth   to cut away what is unwanted or superfluous While it may seem counterintuitive for the gardener to cut off parts of the plants and trees he's been working so hard to nurture and grow, it's actually vital to keeping the plant healthy. I'm not a gardener, b...

The Devil's Snare

Hermione Granger: "Stop moving! I know what this is — it's Devil's Snare!" Ronald Weasley: "Oh, I'm so glad we know what it's called, that's a great help." Hermione Granger: "Shut up, I'm trying to remember how to kill it!" Harry Potter: "Well, hurry up, I can't breathe!" — Hermione Granger, Harry Potter, and Ronald Weasley struggle with Devil's Snare In the last post I used an example from The Hunger Games, and while it is one of my favorite series, Harry Potter  is my ALL TIME favorite. I was watching the first movie over the weekend (for the millionth time) and there is a scene when the main three Harry, Ron, and Hermione become trapped in a vine like plant called Devil's Snare. In the story, the Devil's Snare was a plant that would seem benign and harmless until you fell into it. Once contact was made the plant would then wrap its tentacle-like vines around its prey and essentially squeeze ...
